Poynton Party in the Park 2021/22

PitP Update March 29th ’21

*** SAVE THE DATE 11th JUNE 2022 (tbc in Autumn) ***

We sincerely regret having to take the 2021 decision

but hope you’ll join us to get Poynton rocking again in 2022

The event was planned for Saturday 12th June ’21. We have all seen, however, that the Government’s recent Roadmap out of Lockdown anticipates that restrictions on events such as PitP will not be lifted until Step 4 on 21st June … at the earliest.

We considered possibly delaying PitP but a government decision on easing restrictions will  only be made shortly before each step, so a short delay would be logistically impractical.

We also considered running a smaller event to meet the restrictions on capacity but this would have been non-viable financially.

Sadly, therefore, we have had to cancel PitP 21. We hope to run an event on Sat 11th June 2022 and will review the position this Autumn.

Can we thank all our friends in Poynton and beyond for their ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you again.

Keep safe and well.

Poynton Rotary Club

Please find below the format and details of the postponed ’20/’21 shows and the proposed ’22 show.

Party In The Park is Poynton’s long-standing annual musical extravaganza, with 6+ hours (4.00-10:30) of sensational live music, held in the lovely lakeside setting of Poynton Park.

Bring your family & friends plus a picnic, set up a gazebo (optional), enjoy the atmosphere … and dance, rock or just listen to the music.

It’s organised by Poynton Rotary, in conjunction with Round Table & the Sports Club, supported by Strawberry Radio. It is a strictly non-profit event, with all proceeds distributed to supported charities and worthy causes.

THE MUSIC:  In previous years, the theme has been popular music, delivered by a range of excellent tribute acts.

Click here for highlights of the 2019 show.

This year, there’ll be more of a ‘soft’ rock theme from 8pm-10:30pm, delivered by the very popular ‘Under the Covers’. The show will kick off ‘with a bang’ at 4pm with an Indie/Britpop theme through favourite local cover bands Red Rock Fault and Monkey Harris, supported by Vernon Brass Band and the best of local youth talent.

We also have a fantastic new compere – Chellce AJ – previously of Imagine FM and now the ‘Drive Time’ presenter for Stockport’s Strawberry Radio, Tower FM and others.

Click here for profiles of the 2020 performers.

VENDORS & OTHER ENTERTAINMENT: To supplement your party picnic, we have hot food and drink vendors, a Mr Whippy Ice Cream van and a Marston’s Beer Tent with licensed bar. We also have the popular Face Painting tent from last year and Harry the Kidzbus (soft play for 3-10yr olds).

We appreciate all donations made by traders through the years.

PARK LOCATION & ACCESS (see layout plan –>):

All vehicles (attendees, vendors, performers etc) should enter via the 1st vehicle gate at the London Road South (bottom) end of South Park Drive. Exit will be via the 2nd vehicle gate at the top of South Park Drive. Purple arrows mark the gates.

There is free parking in the park and vehicles may be left overnight.

Pedestrians  only enter by a separate gate at the bottom of South Park Drive near to the lake (see the blue arrows)

Under The Covers

“Under The Covers (UTC) is an award-winning, Manchester based function band collective. After more than a decade of working in the industry, this group of diverse, professional musicians knows exactly what it takes to deliver a flawless performance, bringing bespoke talent and buckets of energy to the stage.

UTC hand-selects only the best of the best industry-leading musicians and performers, and this year we’re delighted to announce a peerless eight-piece lineup, including three world class vocalists; Samantha Murphy, Joey Dexter and Danny Martin.

UTC will be pulling out all the stops to deliver a rock ‘n’ roll show through the ages, featuring performances of songs by bands including Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Queen, AC/DC and many more.

Red Rock Fault Band

A very popular, energetic and fun 5 piece covers band … from Poynton! They play at a variety of venues, with a wide repertoire of music across pop, funk and rock in their own distinctive style.

Their objective is to help you have a great party and to get everyone dancing, singing and shouting for more!

Individually, they have recorded in the same studios as Elton John and The Drifters, have performed at venues such as London’s O2 Arena and Manchester’s Lowry as well as overseas in international festivals.  They bring more than 70 years of combined experience as performers and musicians.

They’ll cover the music of artists such as Elton John, Walk the Moon, Pharrell, The 1975, Chic, Electric Light Orchestra, The Buggles, George Ezra and Jermaine Stewart.

Monkey Harris

Massive favourite with Party in the Park audiences, and with a large following across North-West England, this will be their 5th appearance.

As a five piece covers band, they electrify the crowd with the greatest hits of classic bands with an Indie and Britpop theme. Expect to hear tributes to Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Coldplay, Stereophonics and The Jam.

ENTERTAINERS:  We started at 4pm with a showcase of young talent from Poynton, whilst you enjoyed your food and drink hampers.

This was followed by Poynton’s award winning  Vernon Brass Band, who have been with us since the event started in 2004.

Next we had Paul Grant Reason performing an amazing tribute to George Michael.  Back again by popular demand were Monkey Harris, who had everybody on their feet dancing.  An hour later Paul Grant Reason transformed and lost his bristlesperforming an incredible award winning tribute act to Robbie Williams.

Top of the bill was the incredible tribute band Waterloo – considered the best ABBA tribute band.
Last but definitely not least was our very own Leroy Lurve who has compèred the whole show for many years.
